How to Join


SO YOU THINK YOU WANT TO BE A FIREFIGHTER??

 

     New members to the fire company are always welcome. To obtain an application, please see any firefighter or visit our main fire station on Tuesday nights from 7:00pm until 9:00pm. These are our drill nights.

     Applicants shall be 18 years of age or over and not exceeding 40 years of age, of good moral character and a resident of the designated fire district for a period of at least six (6) months. If any person moves into the designated fire district who was an active member in good standing from a previous fire company in the State of New Jersey and with a letter of recommendation form the Chief and president of said company shall be exempt from the six month residency requirement.

     Application must be made in writing and mailed or personally delivered to the fire company accompanied by twenty dollars ($20.00). The application will then be forwarded by the Secretary to the Committee of Qualifications and Credentials for follow up, interview and, if applicant is found duly qualified, recommended for membership. All applicants must submit to the Committee of Qualifications and Credentials a signed report from a licensed medical doctor attesting sound health, strong heart and without any mental disqualifications. This report shall be submitted to the Committee before any final report and/or recommendation to the company. This review and recommendation/rejection is to be done within 60 days of receipt of application. Please note that all qualified applicants must be confirmed by the Township Council of Monroe Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey.

     All new members are place on probation for a period of one year from date of admittance to the Company. The probationary member shall meet with the officers at regular intervals to discuss their progress with the Company.

CLASSIFICATION OF MEMBERSHIP

ACTIVE MEMBER- at least 18 years of age and maintain a minimum of sixty percent(60%) of fire duty until seven (7) years have been credited to his/her record as prescribed by the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association.

ACTIVE EXEMPT- members who have completed seven (7) years credited service with Williamstown Fire Co. #1 Inc. and hold exempt certificate issued by the New Jersey State Firemen’s Relief Association and shall remain active in fire duty.

EXEMPT MEMBER- exempt as described above but who desire to seek retirement from active fire duty.

AUXILIARY MEMBER- this Company shall recognize an Auxiliary Organization comprised of women directly related to members in good standing and appearing on the Company rolls.
