Membership in the Association
Membership in the New Jersey State Firemen's Association is not automatic. The association requires that members be between the ages of 18 and 45 and pass a physical examination. The physical is conducted in conjunction with the entrance physical provided to each probationary Firefighter. The completed application is forwarded to the State Association for review and approval. Once approved for membership, Firefighters must maintain a combined average 60% of yearly fires and drills to be considered active in the association.
Burial Benefits
The State Association provides a death benefit to the member Firefighter and certain survivors in the immediate family. Payment of benefits is determined by the executive committee of the State Association. Benefits are prorated until a Firefighter has completed 7 accredited years (84 months) of active fire duty.
