Relief Association

Meeting Date: First Tuesday of the month at Station #2 starting at 8:00 p.m.

The Williamstown Fire Department Relief Association is made up of members of Williamstown Fire Company #1 and Cecil Fire Company. The association is a local chapter of the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association. The New Jersey State Firemen’s Association collects a 2% levy on all fire insurance premiums written by insurance companies chartered outside the State of New Jersey. The purpose of this money is to provide relief to qualified Firefighters

Membership in the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association is not automatic. The association requires that members be between the ages of 18 and 45 and pass a physical examination. The physical is conducted in conjunction with the entrance physical provided to each probationary Firefighter. The completed application is forwarded to the State Association for review and approval. Once approved for membership, Firefighters must maintain a combined average 50% of yearly fires and drills to be considered active in the association.

Burial Benefits The State Association provides a death benefit to the member Firefighter and certain survivors in the immediate family. Payment of benefits is determined by the executive committee of the State Association. Benefits are prorated until a Firefighter has completed 7 accredited years (84 months) of active fire duty.

Relief The Williamstown Firemen’s Relief Association is allowed to approve and award monetary relief to qualified Firefighters of the association. If a Firefighter is in need of monetary relief, he or she must contact the secretary of the local association to obtain the necessary application forms. All applications for relief must be approved by the local Board of Trustees, and the Board of Representatives of the Williamstown Firemen’s Relief Association.
